In the first five months of 2025, global sales of Volkswagen BEVs reached 163K units, up 15.8% YoY. While the Chinese market continued to decline, dropping 48.2% YoY, other global markets performed well, surging 73.5% YoY.

Benefiting from the decline in Tesla’s product competitiveness, Volkswagen’s BEV sales in markets excluding China rose from third place last year (74k units) to second place this year (128k units), surging 73.5% YoY.

In Europe, Volkswagen’s BEVs stood out, recording 108k units in Jan-May 2025, a +86% YoY increase. North America and Asia saw 14% and 158% growth respectively, with their robust performance mitigating the impact of China’s decline.

As the main battlefield for the Volkswagen, 8 of the top 10 countries in Volkswagen BEV sales are European nations. Among them, Germany and the UK rank first and second, with respective YoY growth rates of 124% and 190%. The US comes in third with a 39% YoY growth, while Canada is the only country showing a decline, down 38% YoY.
