As of May 2025, BYD topped global BEV sales with 894K units, outperforming Tesla’s 603K by a 291K margin. BYD grew 41% YoY vs. Tesla’s 22% decline.
In 2025, while BYD maintained a 39% year-on-year growth in the China market, its overseas market registered a year-on-year increase of 54%. In contrast, Tesla’s sales in the China market and markets outside China saw year-on-year declines of 18% and 26% respectively.
In the first five months of 2025, Brazil, Thailand, and Indonesia remained the top three markets for BYD BEV overseas sales. Meanwhile, robust performances in European countries such as the UK, Turkey, and Spain drove a surge in BYD’s global overseas sales. With the successful expansion into international markets, BYD is set to maintain its position as the world’s top-selling BEV brand.
